Acadia National Park

We spent two wonderful days hiking in the Acadia National Park. We did a couple hikes each day, a more difficult in the morning and an easier one in the evening. The park is beautiful–clear, cool water, abundant trees, interesting geology, and a wide variety of trails to hike. This blog post will basically be a documentation of our hikes with large pictures.

One of the most popular trails is around Jordan Pond. This trail is very family-friendly, so it is a bit crowded. Still the lake was very beautiful.

Jordan Pond

Jordan Pond was just a way for us to get to our real hike, Pemetic Mountain. This hike was challenging for us, but truly worth the effort. It took us 3 and 1/2 hours to get up and down.

There were ladders because it was so steep!

In the afternoon we drove up to Cadillac Mountain. There was a required fee and reservation; fewer cars and people made the short hike very pleasant.

Look at all the islands!

That evening we did a final walk on the Ship Harbor Trail–a very level and gratifyingly easy trail along the rocky shoreline.

The next day we got up and hiked Acadia Mountain. This was pretty comparable to the Pemetic Mountain hike, but IMO the forest and views were a bit more idyllic.

Our final hike was at Long Pond. It was a wonderful way to end our short time in Acadia.

Our next stop is Portland, ME.
