Eastern Side of Upper Peninsula

Leaving Houghton and the Keweenaw Peninsula, we headed straight towards Marquette, Michigan. Although we were not here long, we checked out the Presque Isle State Park before we checked into a hotel for the night.

Marquette was a little bigger than Houghton. We didn’t take many photos of the town, but the large ore dock really stuck out. Michigan and Minnesota mine all the iron ore in the US.

We continued our journey through the east side of Upper Peninsula the next morning, traveling all the way to Mackinaw City. Along the way we took in quite a lot of hikes and waterfalls. The first stop was Lakenenland Sculpture Park. This iron art trail was fabulous! Believe it or not, the photos below are only a small sample. There were dozens and dozens of pieces at this outdoor gallery.

We continue along around Lake Superior to Munising and into the Pictured Rock National Lakeshore. Here are some of our stops. These water falls were all 0.1 – 0.6 miles off the road. They were all so pretty!

Last scenic stop of Lake Superior on this trip. The great lakes are truly beautiful!

The day came to an end by traveling South to Lake Michigan and crossing over into mainland Michigan.
